[opensuse-factory] About M5 (status distribution)
Hi, We passed the deadline of new package versions without any major harm, the build failures even reduced and the last DVD build I tested did even install flawless. But I'm not so sure it's worth publishing M5 ISOs (beside the automatically published live ISOs). I would rather spend more time on fixing issues that come up with the current version set and then publish M6 ISOs. What do you think? We can of course also update the factory snapshot, so that M4 users will get M5 with zypper dup. Some weeks ago you wrote "August 6th I intend to do a Milestone5
release, this will be the release that every developer can verify
his features against".
Some features can only be tested during installation so zypper
dup is of no help at all. I had problems installing UNTESTED the
last few days so would really appreciate a Milestone 5 ISO.

I guess I can't have both. I mainly want to avoid people downloading M5 and getting a broken system from it because M5 needs more testing. But if they get M4 and then zypper dup will break their system, they won't be very happy either. So I changed my mind, Milestone5 is on the mirrors - but Zonker will only announce it monday to avoid the announcement being lost on a friday. Of course you can still test if it rains for you ;) One note: the bug that you can't use the .isos on machines with cdrom drive is fixed, unfortunately there is still one bug that the machine needs to be fast to scan the USB bus. That was fixed only after M5. And additionally I made one stupid mistake: the x86_64 DVD is too big to burn it on most media. Either test i586 or using a virtual machine. When would the M6 isos be? August 20th, as planned? Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes, the less time I spend on M5 the more likely it is that 20th will work out :) Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

dup this morning shows I now have M5 and a new kernel :^). a later email in this thread advises dup from M4 [can] causes breakage, should I delay rebooting the new kernel? x86_64 -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
