[opensuse-factory] [Tumbleweed] suspend to RAM
Sometime in the last month my Tumbleweed system stopped doing a suspend to RAM (S3), instead it is now doing a "freeze". None of the files /etc/systemd/sleep.conf /etc/systemd/sleep.conf.d/*.conf /run/systemd/sleep.conf.d/*.conf /usr/lib/systemd/sleep.conf.d/*.conf that are listed on the systemd-sleep.conf man page exist. I can also find no pertinent settings in Yast2 or /etc/sysconfig/*. The command systemd-sleep that's hinted at in some man pages doesn't exist. Creating a file /etc/systemd/sleep.conf with the content [Sleep] SuspendState=suspend doesn't "freeze" the system (so that's working) but results in this error Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: Starting Suspend... Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd-sleep[14488]: INFO: Skip running /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/grub2.sleep for suspend Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: systemd-suspend.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: Failed to start Suspend. Due to the problems with secure boot and shim I've also updated the BIOS on this Dell T20 from A05 to A06, so it is possible that something changed there as well. If somebody knows where I need to look, please let me know. Gertrud:~ # cat /sys/power/state freeze disk Gertrud:~ # cat /sys/power/disk [platform] shutdown reboot suspend Regards, Achim. -- +<[Q+ Matrix-12 WAVE#46+305 Neuron microQkb Andromeda XTk Blofeld]>+ SD adaptation for Waldorf microQ V2.22R2: http://Synth.Stromeko.net/Downloads.html#WaldorfSDada -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hmmm... it seems the BIOS update is indeed the culprit: Oct 16 20:23:25 Gertrud kernel: DMI: Dell Inc. PowerEdge T20/0VD5HY, BIOS A05 09/18/2014 Oct 16 20:23:25 Gertrud kernel: ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, While evaluating Sleep State [\_S1_] (20150619/hwxface-580) Oct 16 20:23:25 Gertrud kernel: ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, While evaluating Sleep State [\_S2_] (20150619/hwxface-580) Oct 16 20:23:25 Gertrud kernel: ACPI: (supports S0 S3 S4 S5) ----- Oct 16 22:14:23 Gertrud kernel: DMI: Dell Inc. Creating a file /etc/systemd/sleep.conf with the content
[Sleep] SuspendState=suspend
This state does not exist. Valid states are "mem", "standby" and "freeze" from lowest to highest.
doesn't "freeze" the system (so that's working) but results in this error
Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: Starting Suspend... Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd-sleep[14488]: INFO: Skip running /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/grub2.sleep for suspend Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: systemd-suspend.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Which explains this error.
Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: Failed to start Suspend. Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: systemd-suspend.service: Unit entered failed state. Nov 07 12:18:03 Gertrud systemd[1]: systemd-suspend.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

Gertrud:~ # cat /sys/power/state freeze disk
Well, it does not have any "mem" state so apparently kernel does not think suspend to RAM is possible.
Gertrud:~ # cat /sys/power/disk [platform] shutdown reboot suspend
