[opensuse-factory] leap 42.2 beta1 - no ipv6 address on start up?
On a fresh 42.2 install in an ipv6-only environment, my network interface does not get an address assigned on start-up. I have to do ifdown/ifup for that to work. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (23.0°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I am not having that problem (at present). Instead of ifdown/ifup, have you tried just waiting? If you wait, does the IPv6 address show up after 10-15 minutes? If that happens, take a look at bug 916956. I don't think the bug has been officially fixed, but it isn't happening anymore. I'm not sure why. I think it is a timing issue, and some other change as altered the relative timing. But perhaps that varies from computer to computer. The quick check whether it is the same problem, is to disable the firewall, reboot, and check whether the problem occurs. Apparently the firewall is started in two stages, and the first stage blocks IPv6 router announcements. So if they arrive between the two stages of firewall starting, you will have this problem. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Trying that just now - yes, it worked. It just took a bit longer.

This is the only system (sofar) that is ipv6-only, I have a few others that are dual-stack, they all work fine. Mind you, this is also the only system where I have installed the SuSEfirewall.

Okay, trying that now - yes, now I had an address pretty much right away. Okay, that solves it for me, I only installed the suse firewall to test something, I never use it in production. Thanks for your suggestions. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.1°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Maybe your sysctl configs are ignored? I have had such a problem on 42.1. My initrd contained bad sysctl.conf files and mkinitrd solved it. cu, Rudi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Rudi I think I have seen that too - I often build the initrd myself anyway, the one generated at installartion time is easily 3-4Mb too big. Anyway, the problem seems to be a delay in getting an IPv6 address because wicked is waiting to give up on dhcpv4 (I think). After a little while, IPv6 is up and running. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.2°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
