[opensuse-factory] new factory snapshot
Hi, http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/FactoryLiveCDs/ has new live cds as of today. Please note that it also has the first experimental release of live usb images. |plugin in usb stick |check dmesg output about the device name (e.g. sdc) |umount all possibly automounted file systems |bzip2 -cd <download>.raw.bz2 | dd of=/dev/<device_name> bs=4096 Please note that installing from an USB stick has his problems as yast recognizes the stick as hard disk, which has to be worked around by the user. As usual: if you find bugs with it, note the date of the snapshot in the bug report. Greetings, Stephan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I tried that command, it does nothing :-(
bzip2 -cd LiveUSB-GNOME-20080518-i686.raw.bz2 | dd=of=/dev/sda1 bs=4096 (tried also with /dev/sda)
No error.
(the device is unmounted)
Any tip?
- -- Kind regards.
I tried making a LiveUSB from LiveCD of Beta3 following this tutorial http://klik.atekon.de/wiki/index.php/CustomizeSUSELive which I only had to make a new initrd with support for usb-storage, vfat modules. I think that including a initrd with USB support and a boot option (explicity saying that will only works with a USB) should be fine(in LiveCD), as the user will only have to extract the iso and make the USB bootable.... Of course, if its possible... Since a bzip2 is not an iso, would be nice if some mention of required device size was included in README.LIVEUSB.

It might be an ext3 image. You can check expanding the image with bzip2 and running "file" on it. And post it here, I'm curious :-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Part of the reason I wrote is that some people, including myself, would find it inappropriate to spend the bandwidth to download something like that without knowing in advance they had appropriate media to use it with. -- ". . . . in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you . . . ." I tested with a 1Gb device. Two partitions were created. But I cannot boot with that device, the system freeze on booting. I haven't the time to figure out what the problem is yet. -- Kind Regards --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I've tested LIVECD medium KDE4 and it also did not boot up. It freezes right after loading the kernel. Any bugzilla entry filed for that?
