[opensuse-factory] Flash Player 11 with 64 Bit for openSUSE 12.1

Hi, since Adobe seems to have officially commited to support 64 Bit it would be great if this version could end up in openSUSE 12.1. http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer11.html This would not only fix the nspluginwrapper issues but also save quite some disk space and download traffic, since nearly no 32 bit libs would be needed anymore in a default installation. I know that this is still a Beta, but it is not the first, Flash Player 11 will be released eventually and it works quite stable for many people. And Flash is updated anyway after distribution releases so there shouldn't really be a problem releasing a Beta version. And if it is integrated soon in Factory there will be even more testing. Flash Player 11 also has a Gnome and KDE (I haven't tested it but there are files in the tarball for it) configuration plugin which might come in handy too. Regards Tim I've been using the flash-player beta on 11.4 for several weeks. No problems so far but I will admit I do not look at a lot of videos. I plan on installing it today on 12.1 MS4(?). Will post what I find. -- Russ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

(To everyone): this is not allowed by the terms of the OBS, please don't do this. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_application_blacklist The flash-player source is closed and third-party distribution is not in general allowed by Adobe. IANAL but uploading it to the OBS could make SUSE face consequences for distribution without permission. If you must, build nosrc rpm's in the style of X11:Drivers:Video and have people build them themselves. As I understand it, uploading binary blobs without source available is not allowed on the OBS period, besides any legal issues, it's the not the purpose of the OBS -- it's supposed to provide repeatable builds with a trusted and inspectable source. Simply packaging binary blobs defeats that. The only non-free packages allowed are in https://build.opensuse.org/project/packages?project=openSUSE%3AFactory%3ANon... (and similar for previous releases) As for the original issue, hopefully we'll get a updated flash-player in the SUSE nonoss repo for 12.1, perhaps file a bug against the current flash-player asking for an upgrade. There was a flashplayer 10/64bit that worked fine as well.
This would not only fix the nspluginwrapper issues but also save quite some disk space and download traffic, since nearly no 32 bit libs would be needed anymore in a default installation.
nsplugin wrapper isn't a good idea on 64bit. The 64bit 10 beta was actually more stable than trying to run nsplugin wrapper and 32bit IMO.

I'm currently using the 11 beta 2 on a 32bit system(P3/1Ghz) and it's very stable.
Flash Player 11 also has a Gnome and KDE (I haven't tested it but there are files in the tarball for it) configuration plugin which might come in handy too.
Easy to install. Just copy it to /usr/lib/browser-plugins and restart your browser. A pullin script with that would be all we would need for it if we can download it directly using zypper/YaST. Not really sure why a config script would be needed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

+1 to have it in 64bits native version. But actual bétas crash a lot of time with webkit rendering browser like rekonq, konqueror even opera is not that stable ... but ok, it's a beta, and it's Adobe things. I think it could be (except all reserve from security-team) proposed for next 12.1 if it's get an at least -rc level then it will be updated afterwards (as normally flash get updated 10 or 20 times during the life of a release) -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

This mostly depends on if/how we get a redistribution agreement for this version. currently it is under a Beta license which explicitely forbids redistribution. We're working on it.
