[opensuse-factory] Could someone adapt this little systemd service file to openSUSE?
Hi. As the subject says, could someone adapt this file to openSUSE, please? [Unit] Description=LXDE Display Manager Conflicts=getty@tty1.service plymouth-quit.service After=systemd-user-sessions.service getty@tty1.service plymouth-quit.service [Service] ExecStart=/usr/sbin/lxdm Restart=always IgnoreSIGPIPE=no [Install] Alias=display-manager.service I have absolutely no clue on how to do it. Thanks in advance. Greetings. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You should contact the lxdm maintainers: https://build.opensuse.org/package/users/X11:lxde/lxdm or better via bugzilla with description why to add this... Or even better, add it and create a submit request.

Hi. AFAIK there are no *active* LXDE maintainers. I'm not a maintainer but I regularly submit the updated for packages and Andrea Florio (anubisg1) accept or decline my requests. I could ask him to check the service file but he has already stated that he doesn't have the time to do things. My packaging skills and my knowledge of how the system start up works are poor, and I know nothing about systemd, hence my request. If someone could modify the file I'll patch the original file and submit the package. The file is in the LXDM tarball, it is not something of my own. That is true. And I think it would be nice if someone has the time to do it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi.
As the subject says, could someone adapt this file to openSUSE, please?
[Unit] Description=LXDE Display Manager Conflicts=getty@tty1.service plymouth-quit.service After=systemd-user-sessions.service getty@tty1.service plymouth-quit.service

[Install] Alias=display-manager.service
I have absolutely no clue on how to do it. Thanks in advance.
Unless lxdm is installed on different location, that unit file should work unmodified. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi. Thanks for the hint. "lxdm" binary is in /usr/bin not /usr/sbin. I have fixed the location and now it works fine. Greetings. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The display manager invocation is managed in a single unit file on openSUSE. Doesn't it work without extra unit file but just changing /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager:$DISPLAYMANAGER pointing "lxdm" ? If yes, you can change lxdm package to change this variable in %post and %postun. Take a look at lightdm.spec file and feel free to submit the package change. Or report to Bugzilla if you want to whip other slaves working on it instead :) Takashi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

How many displaymanagers do we need? What's the benefit of lxdm over lightdm for example? cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I'd guess the major benefit would be to provide a consistent set of dependencies for a "desktop environment". As LXDE should be considered a desktop environment rather than only "window manager" (openbox) in this case then a corresponding display manager makes sense. Requirements of packages differ. But you might want to consider that lxdm *is* already part of official repositories anyway. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Can't say if this is still the case, but a couple of years ago when I was experimenting with both, lxdm had both keyboard and language selection options, which on a multi-user, multi-language system I had running at the time was quite important. I seem to recall that one such feature on LightDM wasn't functioning properly. gumb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
any useful , it's about choice, but we dont use directly own display
manager service but display-manager.service wich call
/usr/lib/X11/display-manager which uses DISPLAYMANAGER variable from sysconfig
