Thanks Bruno,
I tried it but it did not work. My packages directory still contains all downloaded packages.
because your packages are not in the *default* location?
Patrick, this is on a machine dedicated to testing purposes solely. My approach is to have all different openSUSE flavors I am intested in testing on this machine, plus some space left to be able to test new installations (like the 12.1 rc1 I mentioned before) and a larger separate partition to - make partition backups of all installations - store files that all installations can or need to access for testing - store the downloaded packages for system upgrades This results in installations on smaller partitions as usual... And 'smaller' here means _much_ smaller. Hence disk space on these partitions is constrained and it has happened in the past that a partition went out of space during an upgrade when huge updates were due. This is why all my installations have their packages-download-directory on a separate partition (called backup) configured in zypp.conf like this: packagesdir = /backup/packages/<name_of_desktop_environment> The above configuration has been working well for quite some time now with all installations. Meaning, that all downloaded packages were and still are deleted after their installation. Only exception to this is the newly installed 12.1 rc1/2. So I don't think that this is a problem of using a different location than *default* to store packages. This must be something different. So what is wrong with 12.1 rc2 here? Are there other places to look for a possible configuration glitch than zypp.conf?
