Also you noted "backports". Speaking of "backports" - we have not decided yet the policy for this type of things.
Who mentioned what? I'm losing context here :-). Anyway, backports are best provided by separate projects (like Apache, network:ldap, GNOME:STABLE ...), so that users can decide which packages to upgrade. I think this is a case where multiple small repositories have their justification.
