You can have RealPlayer for free from their web site. http://www.real.com/linux There are rpm and deb packages also.
Just because you're not charged the moment you download something doesn't make it "for free". Look at their business model. While it is of course ok to try and make money the customer will ask him/herself: Is the product useful? Is it worth the money? In Real's case this would be "No" and "No".
