if it still does't work with gstreamer, maybe you do have to install the fluendo-stuff. i never tried gstreamer / mp3 without it. read somewhere that the fluendo codecs won't be used in openSUSE repos anymore because of some licensing mess-up.
they're still available for free (as in beer) though: http://www.fluendo.com/shop/codecs/
