It's started by Fedora but used by openSUSE as well - starting basically with 11.1, so no wonder that there's not much for 11.0.

You shouldn't have to do anything. Upon installation of 11.1, and the subsequent first update, smolt should automatically do the process for you. That's what happened with both of my machines.
