Hi Gertjan
2 more findings:
- the problem persist even after using zypper instead of yast SW manager..
- the problem vanished after deleting ~/.cache in my home directory. So its not serious (if one knows this fix).
BTW: what is the difference between "zypper dup" and using Yast Software manager / menue "update all packets with newer version available"
Why do you recommend only to use "zypper dup" ?
Thanks for the help.
Christian

I use KDE. I used the Yast Software function to update all packets which have a more recent version. Doing this for several month now on a weekly to bi-weekly basis.

Hi All
after doing the enourmous update (3295 packets) from Tumbleweed 20180606 to Tumbleweed snapshot 20180613 I have the problem that I cannot start graphic Yast from a user account any more.
I press "Yast" in the normal user menu. After I entering the root password indo the kde-su window, the password window freezes and the Yast window does not appear.
starting the yast2 from a root console does work.
MAybe sometheing got broken during this update? Can I correct something?
(currently I rolled back the update..)
BR Christian
In fact, better take this to the opensuse-support@opensuse.org mailing list, this one is more about development.
There's the culprit. Tw can *only* be upgraded by *zypper dup* . Open a terminal window ( Konsole would do ) and do *sudo zypper dup* Enter the root password, accept the proposal, reboot and that should fix the issue. This is due to the way Tw is built and released. Every series of updates is a new Tw release. That way it can be tested in openQA, before releasing the new snapshot ( that's what it is ). This is the reason why.
