Quoting Basil Chupin <blchupin@iinet.net.au>:
I have use vlc for years and it is my one and only player which is worth anything to do everything.
Just PLEASE do NOT stuff it up!
I use vlc to watch TV, record TV programs, view DVDs, listen to music.
So, please do not stuff it up! (like xine was).
Basil, the idea is to provide a 'limited' version of VLC inside Factory; For 'well known' reasons, we can not provide the full pack. The solution though will be different to what was done with XINE, where the package had to be replaced; it will be sufficient to 'add' the vlc-codecs package on top of the Factory vlc package to extend the capabilities to the complete let. This is much easier and if the repository is enabled, should happen even automatically.
