...which apparently uncovered a calibre bug which is now papered over by reverting to FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 in the calibre spec file. I completely understand that you might not understand this, but the new features in newer compilers -- as tiresome it may be to fix the software bugs they uncover -- are not created to annoy you but they are created to make software better and more secure.
