Wasn't this enabled anyway in openSUSE?
Yes, it is enabled, subpixel *hinting* is disabled.
The announcement is clear about the bytecode interpreter, but I didn't fully understood the subpixel part. The GIT entry (http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/freetype/freetype2.git/commit/?id=6bbbbc152...) modifies TT_CONFIG_OPTION_BYTECODE_INTERPRETER, but keeps untouched (undefined) FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING. So? What "Note that subpixel rendering per se is prior art; using a different colour filter thus circumvents Microsoft's patent claims." implies? Has anything changed about subpixel? Also, even if we could use subpixel, Mike FABIAN (I don't see recent message from him, not in Novell anymore?) commented about a problem with the subpixel implementation in Freetype: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2008-06/msg00511.html http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2008-06/msg00577.html No idea if it's already fixed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
