Not sure if I am understanding it. So should it be fixed in YaST to correctly change the DM? If yes, what happen if we install kdm and lightDM in the same environment? which one should be the default? Maybe we need to establish a priorite list of DMs.. I suppose I could but I wonder why e.g. gdm is not doing that?
It could be that one of the packages tied to gdm is taking care of this sysconfig.displaymanager fillup portion.
I could be wrong, but I don't think any package maintained by the GNOME team does this, so that would be something else, I guess.
It seems registering the DM in /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers is enough.
No, see my other mail. Installation is a different matter since the preferred DM is hardcoded in YaST's installer control files based on the selected desktop environment.
But that should not be the case, as I tend to choose minimal patterns (for text and X11) and then do my package selection as it fits my needs. Installer should not tie me to KDM/GDM/XDM/WhateverDM
So probably fixing the installer control files is the way to fix the problem at its heart
