BTW, a Live DVD might be desirable, but it would not replace the Live CD. Why should I download 4 GB to create a minimal system for testing
You can't just d/l some predefined set of what you need? a live DVD doesn't imply that you have to d/l 4 [? isn't it 4.7?] GB of data, I mean just because something has a max capacity of 'XXX', like say a car can carry .5-2 tons...(depends on care) -- you wouldn't drive it around fully loaded all the time, would you?
why does the DVD have to contain 4GB of data? Why not a live media that is 1.2GB in size or .975GB or 1.4GB?
^^ - What they said!
Because thats the de facto standard. And why should place be wasted if you burn it to a 4GB DVD?
---- "De facto standard" where do you get that? Maximum size is 4.7, no? where does some 4GB standard come from? Most SW comes on DVD's these days, and they USUALLY are not full so I'm not so sure about any 'de facto' standard... or ...what are you referring to? As for 'place' (space?) being wasted... by burning less than 1.4GB to a DVD...what is being wasted? You are only burning what you need. Of course if you require the rest of the it was filled with unneeded information, then I'd agree -- it would be wasted.... I hope people are, _really_, NOT stuck in a 700M/4G mentality...(hey, lets not forget 25G BR!)... I mean who wouldn't go with the size they need rather than trying to shoehorn something -- I mean what's your time worth? (i.e. if you didn't include enough, or if you download the kitchen sink...)... Heck -- who burns to DVD's these days anyway? I mean I do...but only because I haven't done a bootable USB key yet (got the keys...just haven't gotten around to the learning part of the task...)... Seems like that's the way to go -- cheaper, faster, more reliable... And there, you can get 1GB/2GB keys really cheap these days (sometimes you'll find them given away!)... Certainly the reader/writer is cheaper (assuming you have any computer at all!) -- and more reliable (not hard considering how I've gone through DVD's over the past many years...).... -l -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
