Hey openSuSE factory;
I have version 11.2 and KDE. The problem is why does SuSE make all sound devices fail to work for users? Did 11.1 work with the same setup?
Takashi I was at 11.2 M1 a few days ago and everything was fine. zypper dup done last night and now kmix comes up blank, Skype only has sound device

Elaborate which update broke it. "the latest alsa updates" doesn't clearly explain which package you updated from which repo.
The possible scenario, judging from your description, is that HDMI is detected as the primary device, and the rest devices weren't loaded because of the slot conflict. Try to remove /etc/modprobe.d/*sound file once.

OK, I did a reboot and sound is now OK. Last night I did a zypper dup and this morning when I checked skype, the only option was HDMI, rcalsasound restart loaded the correct modules, but skype came up the same and kmix was blank. This morning I did another zypper dup, nothing for alsa installed. So, it seems a reboot was necessary after zypper dup - kmix is also fine now. Everything is set as it should be without *-sound.rules file in /etc/udev/rules.d/
Well, I asked about module configs, not about udev... Takashi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
