Hi list,
I just noticed the serial_8250 driver in the opensuse kernel is set to support AND initialize/create 32 serial ports. Is this still useful on a nowadays desktop machine? And even if CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=32 is set, why not set CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_RUNTIME_UARTS to something more reasonable? (It's also set to 32).
I have a box with 8 serial ports, still running 3.12.67. In that one: CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=16 CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_RUNTIME_UARTS=8 I get 8 ports at runtime.
I know I can override it with 8250.nr_uarts kernel parameter, but it would be more logical that this is used by someone who really has a lot of serial ports.
32 does seem a pretty odd default. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
