It depends whether or not you care whether you can get into X as root via startx.
I have to, to get rid of an application where i cannot only use root terminal, so i try.
It was not a good idea, same message, but all kinda things happened, and ctrl+alt+F7 did not take me back to my regular desktop after that...
so still unable to login to root desktop..
If KDM is already running, startx alone won't work. Either shut KDM down first, or do 'startx -- :1'.
