Are you sure it didn't just move?
I don't think we updated udev to the new version which moves vol_id into udev itself, but note, you really shouldn't be relying on that program to be there at all, it's an internal udev tool only.
OK, but the Error messages are not fine ;) I found now (google) "vol_id" is dropped and the correct thing is now "blkid" but this is only working with newer initramfs-tools ?
