KDE3 uses kwin as well, but of course a very old version of that. You should be able to use kwin with other DEs as well though.
If Trinity would have materialized faster maybe I'd still use that.
Yes, the versions you have installed are not available any more, because those packages have been updated as well (kdebase4-workspace to 4.11.19 e.g., kdebase4 and kdebase4-runtime to 15.04.1, and so on).
But the packages are still in the Tumbleweed repo (in different versions), run e.g. "zypper se -s kdebase4-workspace" to see.
Note that I have no idea if YaST/zypper will let you install them though. In the worst case you'd have to download the packages manually and install them with rpm.
Well, what I did now is upgrade all packages that have nothing to do with KDE manually. The current plan is to backup everything in .local .config and .kde4 in my home, then try to get kmail to work and re-build the desktop as best as possible. On my test box this didn't work becuase some of the old settings interfered with kded and I had to start from a clean slate. That means I'd somehow need to be able to implant all mail related settings from the backup into the new configuration if that happens on my main machine also. I've already accepted that I'd lose all other settings, but I can't afford to lose mail in the next few weeks for any amount of time.
As I already mentioned 2 weeks ago (http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2015-05/msg00147.html), I maintain a repo on OBS with Plasma5/KF5 packages that install to /opt/kf5 and therefore don't conflict with KDE4.
I've read this and it's interesting in that it seems to do exactly what is supposedly impossible to do. In any case, I'm on Tumbleweed and this is sufficiently far from 13.2 that the risk of going back seems too high to me. So I don't see how your repo would currently be of help to me.
