so still unable to login to root desktop..
Did you try to enter "root" as the username and the root password in the login screen that you get right after booting? It is not recommended, but if this is what you are after, it works for me in 12.2 and 12.3 and earlier versions. Nope, just the same message. And Yast broke and is not able to return to default theme, so am stuck with the most ugly dinosaur login screen ever... lol. (as if yast wants to say, don't try to improve, or i'll make it worse... :-D Do you know where Yast looks for the KDM themes, because it definitely is not the default: /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm
You still work with the default version of KDE, 4.8, in 12.2. You might consider to use KDE 4.9 by adding http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/49/openSUSE_12.2 as an extra repository and update your system with zypper or YaST. Maybe this restores a working system. Otherwise you should consider to do a fresh install of openSUSE and copy your working data from a backup to that system and do piecewise what you want to change, so when things go wrong you undo the piece that went wrong and try something else. -- fr.gr.
