Hm, but Mark Adler the author of pigz is also an author of gzip. Probably he hasn't got it upstream for a good reason or he is just a good developer who don't want to bother it's users. To say it again I like pigz. But renaming ... ? Why not replacing it in /usr/bin/compress - the Posix way to define a Z compressor.
