If you want to maintain your login env just plain su will do that. I very highly recommend you DON'T. You will mess up your login.
How does it mess up your login?
When using su by itself you maintain your personal login env and can change/create files/folders that are owned by root. Then when logging in to your account you can get errors about not having access to those files.
