every packge named nouveau, nv or nvidia except a few libraries with many dependencies.
you sure everything in /etc/X11* is as the installer left it, neither an xorg.conf file nor any modified files in xorg.conf.d/?
I explicitly removed xorg.conf.d completely. [...]
So I don't have any clue what to do next.
Show us an entire Xorg.0.log.
