What I would like to know is why adobe does this to us :-(
$ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $
Costs it money to develop and distribute for a platform that doesn't generate revenue.
The windows version is also free of charge, there is no revenue.
The free Windows version facilitates upgrading to the pay version, Adobe Acrobat, which generates a lot of output that is not FOSS compatible; and the free version brings additional opportunity to lure users to use other pay Adobe software. It's not completely unlike the printer makers selling cheap inkjet printers that require uncheap replentishment to sustain their utility. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
