Well, I think the most crucial part is selecting UMTS or CDMA. And for UMTS, there is a generic firmware. If someone is interested in, the qualcomm presentation[1] mentions many operator specific things. E.g.: * AT access is disabled for DoCoMo image * Preferred roaming lists are included in the image * aGPS IP address/port are stored in the image * optional default values for SMS service, APNs, usernames and passwords Furthermore, some internal firmware names[0] contain "nogps" or "noxtra", while XTRA is sth like aGPS, both are mentioned in the presentation[1]. Thus, in case of UMTS, GPS and basic data transfer should work using the generic firmware image.
