While we are talking about pulseaudio another module that seems generally useful is module-echo-cancel which makes using various voice/video conference tools actually usable with speakers instead of just headset. Unless there is some major negative to it such as significant cpu usage or somesuch it would seem like a solid default. -- Jimmy On Sun, Aug 2, 2015 at 12:51 AM, Jimmy Berry <jimmy@boombatower.com> wrote:
Various application such as media players (vlc, amarok, etc) are permanently paused (ie they do not unpause after notification sound completes) when various chat/notifications are triggered (steam, skype, etc) which is terrible default behavior. A friend who has recently been trying out tumbleweed ran into the problems so I dug into it and found out it can easily be fixed by disabling module-role-cork.
My guess is this can be better configured to not make this happen while keeping the intent of module-role-cork and/or other applications are misusing something to trigger it, but either way the end result is terrible.
I am not sure of any usefulness it provides as I have not missed anything since disabling. There are a fair amount of discussions on various forums out the symptoms so it seems a fair number of people run into the unwanted effects.

Are there any overwhelming reasons for keeping this enabled by default? Should I post this elsewhere?
I assume the change should be made in: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/multimedia:libs/pulseaudio ? If so I'd be happy to submit a request.
