Because we modify /etc/nsswitch.conf during update to add this parameter if necessary, and this didn't seem to work for you.

People tend to simply and claim this is the reason for their problem while it is not. If you read carefully, there are quite some people, who did revert the change and it still did not work for them. So "usrfiles" has nothing to do with their problem even if they claim so. E.g. the NFS problems are more likely related to the nfs update at the same time, /etc/nfs.conf gives for me syntax errors since them. That's why it is important to find to root cause for every problem and not assume it's all the same.
