Maintenance costs for an aging car rise to the point where getting a new one is more economical.
That may be a good analogy on this case. The trick is to know where you have reached that point in which a car replacement is the best option. That may differ a lot for each one of us. And certainly for most enterprise-level users, that is not every a few years, or when the car has just some drawbacks (like not being compatible with the latest Android auto), or when the driver wants to try the new "sport mode" in the newer generation of the car. Let's face it, most ordinary people (home users in our reality) change the car way before reaching that critical point in which maintenance becomes really more expensive than buying. Yes, I know analogies are dangerous. But the pace of major SLE releases and service packs is designed to match current SUSE customers' expectations. A major release every four years with several service packs for each of those releases seems to fit what the enterprise world wants so far.
