We are more or less, as much as it matters to us. Python packages are auto- generated from metadata (in it's current form, published to PyPI) for quite a while now, so it's good enough in most cases. However, there are a lot of areas where the specification is lacking which forces us to guess or bail out.

Good point, I'll get in touch with him. I already have some points to address, but I guess this is better discussed at distutils-sig@python.org, not here.
I'm not especially deep into Python myself, so I'm putting this out here on opensuse-packaging and opensuse-factory in case someone more suitable is around ;)
