Why they should? This is exactly the point. -p 1 is the default for gzip since 20 years or something. Option -p doesn't even exists for gzip. It's paradox to tell people to use -p for gzip when it doesn't exists. Those scripts will only run if they have the right update-alternative choosen or what? Is this good?
Would you be equally opposed if gzip changed its default? Or if it added a "-p" option? I don't see the point on objections, beyond "it needs testing", which surely it does, it's a core component and it needs lots of testing. Sure, scripts will behave different. It's no worse than the change in ld defaults, and people are moving along with that just fine. Yep, it's a pain sometimes, but it's for good. Stefan Seyfried wrote:
Well, in *that* case people could use -p 1.
but not -R :-)
Yes, this is a good point. But someone mentioned that that option had been implemented already. If not, then I guess pigz is not a full replacement yet. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
