For the X11 errors are tree locations of (most) interest: either in /var/log/ : /var/log/Xorg.0.log /var/log/*dm.log (may be /var/log/*dm.0.log) or in the per user log: $HOME/.xsession-errors Have a look there for the errors. Otherwise, ask in a kde specific area (e.g. opensuse-kde@opensuse.org) for help regarding how to disable native OpenGL (set to XRenderer) / Desktopeffects for kdm via config files. IIRC, when ksplash runs, kdm is already up and running in the background.
