with the latest snapshot, kwin_x11 no longer produces these errors, but plasmashell still does.
after a few more test, all of the problems still exist 8-<
Now even while running some graphic programs the nouveau driver gives error messages like the one below.
kernel: nouveau E[<prg>[<pid>]] fail set_domain kernel: nouveau E[<prg>[<pid>]] validating bo list kernel: nouveau E[<prg>[<pid>]] validate: -22
The system is nearly unusable now 8-(
just wanted to give you an update on this. With the latest snapshots the situation has improved:
- no more distorted screen or screen elements after a resume from hiberation - no more nouveau messages regarding kwin_x11 - a few more programs are working as expected now - plasmashell still gives the above mentioned error messages and sometimes still goes crazy - restarting plasmashell solves this problem in most cases - still a few complete distorted screens on rare occasions, where only rebooting the system cures the problem
with the latest snapshots and the new kernel the situation got worse again 8-(
Is there anything I can do to get this problem addressed?
Obviously at the moment no one is interested to look at it - or someone does, but doesn't tell others about it :)
My Tumbleweed system is unusable at the moment!
If this situation doesn't improve and the problem also occurs with the next official openSuSE release I'm really lost 8-<
As this seems to be a kernel regression, the best, but not easiest, way to find the problem is to use git to clone the kernel source from git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git and bisect between bad and good versions. The bisection will be easier as you only need to look at changes in nouveau by starting with 'git bisect start drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/'. If your skills are not up to building and installing your own kernels, then you should report this at http://bugzilla.kernel.org and report it as a regression.
