Thanks Andreas; That fixed the problem. Now if the GRUB problem with mkinitrd or GRUB could get fixed - things would be correct again.
/lib/mkinitrd/setup/01-splashy.sh: line 67: directfb-config:<<---- command not found
I submitted a fixed splashy package, for now just install DirectFB-devel. Bug #597667.
