Hello, I am running Tumbleweed off openSUSE 12.1. In the past i used "i915.lvds_downclock=1" as a power saving measure on my laptop, but realised that it caused annoying screen flickering and made it impossible to use an external display. So i disabled this option and have had a functioning laptop since then. However since i ran zypper dup last week and updated the kernel to 3.4.6-34, this display instability has returned. When i plug in an external monitor via HDMI (or VGA) i can sometimes use it for a couple of minutes before the graphics card starts switching the output between displays and flickering, rendering it impossible to use. It is often worse if i only use the external display (i.e. disable laptop display). I suspect this is due to some kernel change which has allowed the lvds downclock power saving measure to work (i.e. without being forced). Can anyone confirm this? Also can i force disabling this option by entering in "i915.lvds_downclock=0" at the kernel line?
