I'm on current Tumbleweed. Since some time kmail crashes frequently with the message "[warn] epoll_wait: Ungültiger Dateideskriptor" (probably "bad filedescriptor").
If I (user) can do something, please advice.

If you are using 5.3.0 then its been happening to me since it was updated. I have posted a lot of messages about it and the error messages i've been getting but i've not had much response. It seems like you are on your own with 5.3.0. I'm thinking about downgrading back to 5.2
Yes, Kmail says:
Version 5.3.0 (QtWebEngine)
Unter: KDE Frameworks 5.26.0 Qt 5.6.1 (kompiliert gegen 5.6.1) Das xcb Fenstersystem
»Fenstersystem« maybe translated as »window system«.
Would you report the bug? I'm on a train until late this evening and tomorrow I'll be in a meeting all day.
I've no idea how to downgrade, because the old version of kmail no longer is on TW, is it?
Regards,
Alexander
I have logged a couple already 368445 (18-09-2016) and 368016 (03-09-2016) against kmail2, but i'm not sure if its supposed to be against kmail5. I don't know how to downgrade it yet.
I don't know if it's related ( not seeing output ), but do you have any saved searches in kmail? If so remove them and see if things improve. -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a.
