Yes, you have an excellent point here, and actually, I am using this (btrfs snapshots for timeline backup on an external disk) as well for specific kind of data.
For my "/home" I am using it as well, yet with btrfs snapshots on the _local_ disk, using pam_snapper as described here...
I use snapper.pl xfs volumes & LVM. Not as efficient, but it works for providing "previous versions for my windows client". But basically I have a daily snapper.pl script that does an rsync between yesterday's snap and today's volume -- and puts the diffs in a 3rd vol which is saved as the snapshot. It isn't a substitute for backups, which are done using xfsdump, nightly w/a tower-of-hanoi cycle w/lvl 0's at first of the month. Using thin-provisioned snaps on lvm, one can use any file system and get automatic snapshotting (no rync needed). I haven't seen those on opensuse yet... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
