A small side note here: based on some discussions I had last week with Darix, I as well started work on this and have the packages in the VideoLAN repository mainly prepared to allow 'legal' builds (without Hmm, it seems that Darix then forgot to tell you that I was also working on this.
dependencies not shipped in Factory) and an extension package on top of that, putting VLC back on the level it is when you install it from the VideoLAN repository. The main difference between our two approaches are that you are crippling the tarball and have only the crippled one build on the openSUSE OBS. Based on the experiences with Chromium, this crippling might be no longer necessary which would do us both good. Of course we can not build certain codecs on the openSUSE OBS and therefore we have to build those on either packman or the videolan repo. At this moment however I am not really sure which one is more in use by the openSUSE users.
We should try to minimize efforts and merge the work... I agree.
From a 'VideoLAN repository maintainership' perspective, I of course appreciate other people 'fixing' issues, but a transparent linking between whatever gets checked in to OBS to the VLC repo sounds 'unfeasible' at first (I'd request at least a full review and veto right on all changes going into the VLC package; no self-accepts). I am not seeking maintainership of the VLC package on openSUSE OBS. I am more than happy if somebody else takes care of it. My main item at the moment is that I want to build the vlc backend for Phonon so that we can offer alternatives and become less dependent on Gstreamer. However with this we need to offer openSUSE users with a functional, but with only opensource codecs VLC package.

Raymond Hi Raymond, I am one user who uses the VideoLan repo and has done so for some considerable time. Regards Sid.
