Hi Sarah!

we have got build failures with PostgreSQL14 on s390x at the moment. That was looking like a gcc bug and I have forwarded that to IBM. I can reproduce this issue on my mainframe vm with following commands:
osc co openSUSE:Factory:zSystems/postgresql14 cd openSUSE\:Factory\:zSystems/postgresql14/ osc build --vm-type=kvm --vm-memory=4G
FWIW, postgresql-14 also fails to build from source (FTBFS) on Debian unstable on s390x:
But it seems to be a testsuite failure in this case.
Fedora is switching to PostgreSQL14 for the next release version at the moment. But they will need some time for x86 before porting it for s390x.
Unlike the openSUSE build system setup for Factory, the Fedora build system setup for Rawhide does not allow packages to land without it working for all supported architectures. That includes s390x. All architectures will be ported at once. Koji will reject a package that fails on *any* architecture, whereas OBS allows it through if it builds on x86 but fails on every other architecture.
Thank you for the correction! I don't know all about the Fedora release process until now. 3 weeks ago I did not see any big differences with patches or anything in this direction for s390x. Perhaps I should look deeper into special package versions. One crazy additional behaviour with osc on Fedora is, that the IBMer had a memory requirement of 12GB for PostgreSQL and our default memory requirement is 4GB. Anyway, there has to be anything running wrong with gcc inside of the Tumbleweed VM and with the outside operating system. But I don't know what... I want to achieve a nice reproducible behaviour for openSUSE on Fedora the same as on openSUSE. We figured out today, that it is also not reproducible on SLES 15 SP3. Best regards, Sarah
