This is a backup etherpad as we can't really use etherpad.opensuse.org because of https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/90230 All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting ## Participants dleuenberger,guillaume_g, bittin, lkocman, rbrown, adrian, ddemaio, gp, maxlin, dirk !!! Please be aware that this meeting is hosted on https://meet.opensuse.org/ReleaseEngineeringMeeting ## Leap rpm update 4.14.1 -> 4.14.3 will be released as maintenance update prior or with GA timing https://jira.suse.com/browse/OPENSUSE-23 Spoke to marketing team regarding ARMv7 related announcements frontrunner + the actual armv7 availability. Recommendation from Gerald during our Leap Testing (now frontrunner) meeting. GM is currently scheduled for 21st May. GA then on 2nd June. Dimstar's maint SR for 15.3 was rejected. Lubos will look into todo: Boothole (2) Leap 15.2 image-respin ## openSUSE Tumbleweed Some new snapshots releases * GNOME 40.1 is in Staging, almost ready * Plasma 5.21.5 submitted for staging just this morning * UsrMerge is 'ready' as per staging project; See https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/M... for information how to test (careful: once added, there is no plan to opt out again) * GCC 11 as the default compiler is being tested in Staging:N; a few more build failures to address ## Richard (Kubic/TW MicroOS) Go1.16 as default (and other golang-related updates, eg helm) blocked by https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/882556 - JeffK and I would appreciate any contributions to get cilium building with Go1.16 Kubernetes 1.21 and updates for 1.18, 1.19 and 1.20 all released Experiments started on a MicroOS build optimised for Rancher use cases MicroOS Desktop (GNOME) Beta has been released, some pattern tuning identified before it can be considered production ready. Improvements to firstboot wizard otw to make it more resiliant to complex network arrangements. Talks about MicroOS Desktop (GNOME) and Rancher-optimised Kubic submitted to oSC ## Max * Forked llvm meta package in Leap 15.3(actually did in Backports proejct) bsc#1179155, bsc#1184920, JIRA#SLE-17825, the effecting package also fixed * Multiple keys have to be loaded for rpm verification while zypper dup, merged instsource-susedata and product-builder plugin, on the latest Leap build that gpgkey was listed in the repomd.xml/tags/content * Integrated openSUSE-signkey-cert to Leap 15.3, a helper package for loading openSUSE built KMPs * Entering the RC phase llvm is now treated as a "system configuration package" so we rebuild it just like other branding packages. However this one is forked in Backports unlike rest of system-config/branding packages which live in openSUSE:Leap:15.3 Lubos: Max sees some mass rebuilds after entering the RC phase due to SLE Updates change We need to stop mass-rebuilds of Backports:15.3 because of random SLE- 15:Updates. SLE 15 SP3 does not take any new updates since Monday 3rd May. Max: Options can be 1) switch to leap-15.3 snapshot repo 2) set a date then just freeze Backports project Adrian: if Backports would build against Leap 15.3 snapshot, then we'd have fix point. Adrian: at the same point in time we'd freeze Leap 15.3 and Backports. For Update projects that's different but for 15.3 GA there would be no changes. ## Guillaume - Arm Tumbleweed: * Rolling again Leap 15.3 ARM: * aarch64: * Still need to fix envoy-proxy (OOM) * Still not able to build locally (osc build --vm-type=kvm) for aarch64 with a Tumbleweed host. https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1183653 * Armv7: * NET ISO still hangs in linuxrc (in hardware detection): https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1183795 dirk may have a fix * No publish area yet. http://download.opensuse.org/ports/armv7hl/distribution/leap/15.3/ would be consistent with previous Leap releases. lkocman: There we've agreed that Adrian will publish it to ports. Correct Adrian? Adrian: confirms that this is solved, but he needs to ensure that product name refers to ports. I will setup publishing later this day to the ports repository. More Aarch64/ARM7 build hosts is on its way * Also need to move JeOS to :15.3:ARM:Images project at some point. WSL: New hire Scott started last week. and getting used to OpenQA and such WSL: Stalled: WIP to have WSL on aarch64 on https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:Guillaume_G:WSL The goal is to have WSL-DistroLauncher package built for aarch64. Help welcomed. SUSE is currently interviewing candidates for the WSL Engineering post. So far Jeff is still the only person working on the Engineering efforts (native kiwi support, and some current WSL build blockers on SLE). Lubos is currently considering a hackweek project for WSL / aarch64. This is currently the plan. ## Michel ppc64le Not available ## Sarah - s390x Not available. * opensuse-build-key did not build for Tumbleweed because of wrong key (fixed): new snapshots available * lightdm failed to start during test after being connected via VNC ( https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1185107 ) ## Doug * Leap 15.3 * Release announcement being translated - https://en.opensuse.org/Release_announcement_15.3 * openSUSE Conference (June 18 - 20) * Had Meeting (every Tuesday at 18:00 UTC on meet.o.o. & discord) * Had video team meeting last Friday and this Friday - https://meet.opensuse.org/bar * CfP closed: Submissions 47, 28 hours, 3 withdrawals * Recommended to have people record talks rather than live, but live is an option. * Will approve talks and send out emails and need response from those who want to do live and those who will provide a recording. (Q&A will be done in after the talk finishes playing in the platforms BBB) * working on video upload option (will likely use ocloud.de) * Added sponsors datto and working on sponsorship with almalinux * Working on separate announcements for frontrunner and armv7 * Sprint tomorrow meet.opensuse.org/websprints (might move to bar) ## Dirk Focus on armv6/v7 build failure fixes on Tumbleweed (nodejs, various pandoc) Found and fixed stale frozenlink on Step:15-SP1 Leap 15.3/armv7 still has too many build failures, no time to address this week Setup a Step 15-SP4 project that rebuilds all SLE layers in one project with reproducible-build flags enabled Fallout is very high (149 failures), to be analyzed and fixed. (x86_64 only) Dirk: I'd really appreciate some help to get this down to a manageable number such as 20 or so. ## Gerald Wonders why/whether minutes of this meeting are not sent to SUSE- internal lists any longer? Lubos: Not actually changed. This is most likely mail deduplication happening, since he sends as one mail, using Bcc, so the mail has a single Message-ID. ## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling team off-site today The move of the packages to subpackages is done. They are published. ## Ludwig Not available ## Adrian - CtLG or openSUSE Step No update today. Leap 15.3 GA is scheduled for 2nd June. ftp-publishing for armv7/ports, could be set up today. Guillaume and Dirk agree to release the build. However we want to wait for announcement until we have a working ARMv7 build. Discussions about OpenSUSE 15.2 Leap (Boothole 2 Respin). Lubos: let's use respin as part of the subproject name. Lubos to create subproject, and will update the existing mailing list thread.
