Really. For what to have a virtualized system if you can't really connect to it?
To do data processing for example, i.e. reporting and data analysis. Such an application could read from one (mounted) database and write its output to a file.
IMHO a system w/o network is not of use nowadays.
I agree that networking is highly useful. The question is, do we want to make networking mandatory (!) for the 'base' system. I do not think so.
