They have their corporate headquarter on Cayman ilands.. try to sue them.. and you'll fail in many ways :)
Correction, it used to be Isle of Men (not cayman).. but according to current info found, it's now actually UK based (London), incl. an office in the US. So it could be indeed interesting to understand how they manage that (from what I gather, Canonical entered a license agreement deal with MPEG-LA in 2010, see http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/201 0/05/canonical-licenses-h264-theora-out-for-the-count-updated; yet, Canonical is not listed on the patent holders in good standing on http://www.mpegla.com/main/programs/AVC/Pages/Licensees.aspx, indicating that they might no longer have it covered - and in fact the coverage wasa merely for OEM's pre-installing Ubuntu on machines, not for 'users getting the install sources from the web). yet, I think we should their lawyers care for their product, while we have our sponsor's legal department take care of 'ours' -- Dimstar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar@opensuse.org>
