Hi list-mates,
I've been integrating the artwork for 11.4 and I thought that it would be a good idea to write an openSUSE Branding HOWTO (gfxboot and bootsplash- branding-openSUSE). Feedback is welcome!
Will's KDE Branding HOWTO is here: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2010-06/msg00068.html
If you have also done some branding, think about writing a HOWTO ;-)
I can write some stuff about GNOME branding, but I guess I'd need to know what people usually want to change ;-)
What is important: - gconf2-branding-openSUSE: this is where most of our branding goes right now. The spec file creates a gconf xml file that sets: default wallpaper (we use the one from desktop-data-openSUSE), default theme, various other settings we want, etc. - gimp-branding-openSUSE: to change the default splash on startup. - gtk2-branding-openSUSE and gtk3-branding-openSUSE: to change the fallback theme, in case default theme can't be found - hicolor-icon-theme-branding-openSUSE: to define the logo of the distribution, when used in a theme. It's used in the gdm login screen, for example.
What might be of interest: - epiphany-branding-openSUSE: to change the vendor in the user agent, as well as default bookmarks - gdm-branding-openSUSE: to change some default settings in gdm - glib2-branding-openSUSE: to change the default applications - gnome-menus-branding-openSUSE: to change the applications menu structure - PackageKit-branding-openSUSE: to change the vendor, and define some default configuration - pidgin-branding-openSUSE: to change some default settings in pidgin
Things I've never touched (so don't trust me on this ;-)): - compiz-branding-openSUSE: contains the openSUSE logo (for use with, say, the compiz cube)
But as a rule of thumb, for people doing some branding: look at the source packages for all *-branding-openSUSE packages that are installed on your system.
Thanks Vincent! -- Javier Llorente
