The desktop effects are working fine but I'd like to use emerald instead of metacity to decorate the windows - not sure what kind of programs they are -. I haven't found any way to do that... Erik.

Not quite sure what you mean - compiz is a window manager and if you enabled Desktop Effects it should be running.
ps ax | grep compiz
on the command line to check after you log in.
