I recently had USB problems on a Leap laptop. I had to rmmod xhci_hcd and modprobe it again to get my external keyboard+mouse back.
Losing a USB-connection to a storage device can cause filesystem corruption (though with ext4 journaling it should not be bad)
If it happens again, I'll collect as much logs as I can.
