hello - anybody here?
Yes, sure, but the proposal is, sorry to say, a little bit late. The distribution reached the Beta stage yesterday and is stabilizing right now. In general, I'd say that a rework or redesign of the idea behind patterns should _really_ wait for openSUSE 10.3. The patterns have been worked on for weeks. By all means, clearly missing packages should be added to the patterns even now, but let's not reconsider the general ideas now, 1 month before the distribution is finished. The general idea now is that patterns contain a small number of packages which in turn pull in other packages by dependencies. The patterns are not specifically designed with either newbies or experts in mind. The idea of making every package part of at least one group is interesting, but actually already implemented: Every package is part of exactly one rpm "Group". I don't think that duplicating what already exists as rpm "Groups" in patterns makes a lot of sense, certainly not now. Note that YaST can display package groups next to patterns: It's the "filter" drop-down menu in yast2 sw_single.
