By doing the installation once again, one the first error popup appears press ctrl+alt+shift+x and run 'dmesg | less -S', then look for IO errors.
The initial dmesg output is /var/log/boot* I think.

Well... from TW dvd, minimal x install *succeed*!! I saved the dmesg content, just in case, but it's probably not worth sharing. I had a curious message in the install summary, saying that no place was selected for grub stage 1, but in fact extended part was selected, and I didn't touch anything.
