BTW, I've seen on bugzilla someone asking for an upgrade on PyGTK, so maybe it could change the state of this issue.
yes, I requested this because the PyGTK version which is currently there is known to be affected by PEP-353 which causes breakage with Python2.5 on 64bit platforms. http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0353 This document contains also a script that can be used to check existing code for breakage. I'm almost certainly sure that it's this because smart --gui works perfectly on 32bit and not at all on 64bit. PyGTK 2.10.3 fixes it.
